DMV Debt and License suspensions can be devastating. It can cause you to lose your job and put you in an impossible financial predicament. Most DMV debt or the debt that caused the suspension (such as failure to maintain insurance or a lapse in insurance ) can be wiped-out in bankruptcy.
REMOVING THE SUSPENSION
Generally, the only way to remove the suspension is to pay the debt (which is often extremely high and thereby impossible for most people) or file Bankruptcy. This is possible in both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 Bankruptcies. Once the bankruptcy case os filed, you are able to go to the DMV and provide them the Notice of Bankruptcy Filing and get your driver's license or have the suspension lifted.
DMV debt or suspensions resulting from child support, DUI, or willful or malicious injury cannot be discharged in bankruptcy.
