DMV DEBT
Driver's License suspensions can be devastating. It can cause you to lose your job and put you in an impossible financial predicament. Many suspensions are often the result of debts related to failure to maintain insurance at the time of an accident or debts relating to vehicle accidents.
REMOVING THE SUSPENSION
Generally, the only way to remove the suspension is to pay the debt (which is often extremely high and thereby impossible for most people) or file Bankruptcy. The filing of the bankruptcy case may allow you to discharge the debt causing the suspension. Once the bankruptcy case is filed, you are able to go to the DMV and provide them the Notice of Bankruptcy Filing and get your driver's license or have the suspension lifted.
DMV debt or suspensions resulting from child support, DUI, or willful or malicious injury cannot be discharged in bankruptcy. Additionally, you may still be required to pay any applicable reinstatement fees.
